The Czech Republic is an absolutely stunning country – there’s no two ways about it. From the rolling foothills and beautiful forest land to the mountains and lakes, to the man made wonders of the 3000 castles, palaces and attractions in the towns and cities, along with the splendour of centuries of architectural styles, there’s no arguing the fact that this is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe – if not the world. The capital city Prague is bewildering with its beauty, but it doesn’t end there. Countless theatre shows, cafes, operas, casinos, shops, bars, street performances, museums, restaurants and art galleries are there for all who visit, and the amazing city just keeps on giving night and day. The incredibly friendly Czechs make any length of stay in the country an even greater pleasure, and even the residents in Prague – who might be thought to be tired of tourists – are as friendly as can be, if not more so. The centre of the city is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and is home to such attractions as Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, the winding streets of Lesser Town and Tyn Church in Old Town. Other areas of interest around the country include the museum at Terezin – a former Nazi concentration camp and stark reminder of the sometimes tragic history of the nation. Elsewhere there are other attractions such as the ski and snowboarding facilities available on Krkonoše Mountains National Park; one of the best art galleries outside Prague, Západocesk&eactute; Gal&eactute;rie; the Moravian Museum and possibly most important of all – the city of Plzen, home to the Brewery Museum and the Plzensky Prazdroj Brewery, birthplace of pilsner beer. Outside of the urban areas, the Czech Republic is home to three protected national parks, 24 protected landscape areas and countless other national nature reserves and suchlike, meaning the visiting rambler and explorers will always have something to occupy their time with!
